It's hard to think about anything today other than Game 4 in the Stanley Cup playoffs tonight — and for one local jewelry designer based in Hyde Park, our collective hockey obsession has inspired a new "Black & Gold" collection that's selling like hotcakes.
Dune Jewelry, founded by former real estate agent Holly Christensen (oringally from Cape Cod), specializes in sentimental pieces of sterling silver jewelry encasing sands from various local beaches.
Using gold sand from Carson Beach in Boston and black sand from Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester, Dune's "Black & Gold" collection pieces start at $45 for "Dunedrops" (stud) earrings up to $150 for the "Traveler Bracelet." You can even "send in your sand and save" on customized pieces, which led one woman to send in a ground-up hockey puck to make custom cufflinks for her husband. Because I'm also sentimental (Go Bruins!) and psyched up for tonight's game, here's a little home video of my husband and our friends (including Rene Rancourt!) on the Modell's flatbed truck during the 2011 Stanley Cup victory parade:
