Americans have a charming, naive belief in the power of labeling. McDonald’s and its ilk, for example, are under more or less constant pressure to prominently display nutritional information about their food. Nothing less than a skull and crossbones stenciled on a Big Mac with the warning “DON’T EAT THIS!’’ would satisfy the self-appointed guardians of the nation’s waistlines. (Full article: 693 words)
