High Street mega retailer Primark will open its first U.S. store location in Boston. The price-conscious fashion chain will take over the 70,000-square-foot space once occupied by Filene’s in Downtown Crossing and plans to open doors in late 2015, reports the Boston Globe. Primark will occupy four floors within the Burnham Building following the completion of the site’s restoration by New York-based developer Millennium Partners.
Primark is a household name across the pond, with 268 stores in Europe. The company announced Boston will be the first of its U.S. expansion and the Wall Street Journal says Primark plans for additional northeast store locations in 2016.
Primark opened its first store in the late 1960s in Dublin and has since experienced rapid expansion through Europe with a focus on low cost, trend-driven fashion.
We’re looking forward more student-friendly, fashion-forward retailers making their way into Boston — with Uniqlo in the works and Topshop and Mango on our wishlists — but we doubt anyone is more excited than whoever started this “GET A BOSTON PRIMARK” Facebook page back in 2009. We did it, buddy. We finally did it!
