Employees want to feel pride, appreciation

Some measures of the economy’s slow-motion turnaround are not pure economics. Everyone who has a job values the security that comes with a steady income. But for most, a paycheck is just part of the employment equation. They want to feel good about what they do, take pride in where they work, and, yes, have some fun.

This year, 333 Massachusetts organizations and more than 76,000 employees completed our annual Top Places to Work survey. The organizations that sparked the most enthusiastic responses recognize it makes business sense to demonstrate appreciation for the people who drive success. An inviting workplace spurs productivity, innovation, and profits.

One other piece of information says a lot about local employers. Our research partner, WorkplaceDynamics of Exton, Pa. — which conducts similar surveys in other US cities — told us employees in Boston were more enthusiastic about their companies than employees in any other region. In a way, that means this is the top Top Places to Work.
