Measuring the Republican shift since 2008
Scott Brown earned a larger share of the vote in every town and city in Massachusetts on Tuesday than fellow Republican John McCain did in his 2008 run for president. The senator-elect's largest gains came in central and southeastern Massachusetts, which has backed Republicans such as former Gov. Mitt Romney in the past. But even in the Democratic stronghold of Boston, Brown boosted the Republican share of the vote by 11 percentage points compared to 2008.
