Brigham and Women’s Hospital announced today the birth of Mikaela Jane Davidson, the daughter of Dr. Terri Halperin and her husband Dr. Michael J. Davidson, who was fatally shot at the hospital in January. Halperin, a plastic surgeon, gave birth to the baby girl on April 4.
According to the hospital, Mikaela was named after her dad; she even shares his initials: MJD. Davidson, a 44-year-old cardiovascular surgeon from Wellesley, was shot and killed by a patient’s son, who then took his own life.
“Michael was very much looking forward to the birth of this beautiful baby girl,” Halperin said in a statement. “At a time when my children and I are completely heartbroken over the loss of Michael, we are finding joy in Mikaela’s arrival. We have been humbled and touched by the tremendous outpouring of love and support coming from family, friends, patients and all those kind-hearted souls who have been moved by Michael’s senseless death.”
Halperin and Davidson had three other children: 10-year-old Kate, 8-year-old Liv, and 2-year-old Graham. The Davidson Family Fund has been established to provide support for the children.
The hospital says both mother and baby are doing well.
