Well, this is a fine, “How do you do?” Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers with guest Edie Brickell cancelled their Boston Pops Tanglewood show on June 23 because of “unforeseen circumstances.” Martin and the other musicians were supposed to open the 2013 Tanglewood season. But, fear not, Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Orchestra are still on the opening schedule (assuming, of course, there are no more “unforeseen circumstances”). The concert date and featured guest artist will be confirmed and announced later. To prepare for the upcoming Tanglewood season (June 23-Sept. 1), maybe you should ask for a picnic basket for the holidays. Highlights include the screening of a newly re-mastered 1961 “West Side Story” accompanied by the BSO performing Leonard Bernstein’s score (July 13). Tanglewood tickets go on sale Jan. 27. Also, Yo-Yo Ma is scheduled to make two appearances and violin virtuoso Joshua Bell will be back for his 25th straight year in the Berkshires. And while the wild and crazy Martin might not make it, there will be celebrities, including country crooner Vince Gill (July 7) and songbook king Michael Feinstein (Aug. 16).
