The average price for gas in Massachusetts was $3.71 a gallon in the latest weekly AAA survey, up 9 cents from the previous week’s average, AAA Southern New England said Monday.
Local prices are up 23 cents over the past month, AAA Southern New England added.
Last week, when prices jumped 14 cents a gallon, AAA cited a combination of tensions in the Middle East and demand from the busy summer driving season as a big reason for the increase.
The current national average for gas is $3.67 a gallon. A year ago at this time, the Massachusetts average price was 15 cents lower at $3.56.
In AAA’s latest weekly survey for Massachusetts, the range in prices was 26 cents, from a low of $3.63 to a high of $3.89.
