Bertil Hult, a Swedish entrepreneur who founded EF Education First, is set to receive the 2012 Lucia Trade Award from the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce in a Monday ceremony in New York City.
A global company with Swedish roots, EF has its North American headquarters in Cambridge. EF is an education company that specializes in language training, international travel, and cultural exchange programs.
EF currently has 800 employees based in Massachusetts and just broke ground on a new 10-story facility that will have space for an additional 400 new positions at its Cambridge campus by 2014, the company said.
A recent Globe story noted that this new building is designed to look like a massive waterfall, with a jagged column of glass cascading along the middle of its facade.
Previous recipients of the Lucia Trade Award include Jeffrey Immelt of General Electric, Jeffrey Kindler of Pfizer, Ingvar Kamprad of IKEA, and former President Ronald Reagan.
