Apple made a series of announcements at an Apple event on Oct. 22, including the introduction of two new iPads. Here are some details about the all-new iPad Air, a thinner, faster version of previous iPads. It will be available for shipment beginning Nov. 1.

The iPad is one of Apple’s most popular selling products. CEO Tim Cook said at the Apple event that 170 million iPads have been sold since its initial release in 2010. There are now four generations, two versions of a mini iPad and the newest addition of the iPad Air. Next
Inside the iPad Air
Most rumors were calling the new iPad, iPad 5, but it is now official that the new model is called the iPad Air. The sleek design has reduced the side bezels by 43 percent, making it easier for hand-held operation. It is 28 percent lighter, 20 percent thinner and has 24 percent less volume than previous models.

The biggest change from the previous iPad models to the iPad Air is the dimensions. The iPad Air is just 7.5 millimeters thick, down from 9.4 millimeters on the iPad 4. Apple emphasized the new shape, and thinness of the iPad Air. Next
The iPad Air weighs just one pound, down from a 1.4 pound iPad 4. It is now the lightest full-sized tablet in the world. Next
The iPad Air has improved camera cabilities including an HD FaceTime camera and the upgrades similar to the iPhone 5S camera. FaceTime will also vastly improve with the implementation of dual microphones. The operating system is the new iOS 7, but has upgraded versions of iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. Next
The iPad Air also uses the A7 chip that was introduced with the iPhone 5S in September. The iPad also uses a 64-bit, and M7 processor, making it the fastest iPad offered by Apple. Next
The iPad Air will sell for $499 for a 16 GB, Wi-Fi-capable mode. The 16 GB, cellular service model will cost $629. Apple will also still offer the iPad 2 for $399, saying that customers still want the possibility to purchase a larger-sized iPad. Next
