Movie: "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (1951)
Background: Gort came to Earth with his alien companion, Klaatu, to warn world leaders that if they do not stop making war against each other, the world would be destroyed.
Where he is today: Traveling around the galaxy trying to uphold peace. Next
Movie: "Forbidden Planet" (1956)
Background: Robby is a 7½-foot tall cook, a clothing-maker, and bodyguard, who lives with Dr. Edward Morbius and his daughter, Altaira "Alta" Morbius, on a planet called Altair 4.
Best quote: "If you do not speak English, I am at your disposal with 187 other languages along with their various dialects and sub-tongues."
Why we love him: There's not much he can't do.

Rambler-Crane Series Robot (The Robot)
TV series: "Lost in Space" (1965-68)
Background: Programmed to help the Robinson family make their way though space to start a new human colony.
Best quote: "Danger, Will Robinson! Danger"
Why we love him: The Robot never fails to let the family know when danger is approaching. Next
Movie: “Robocop” (1987)
Background: After dying, police officer Alex J. Murphy is reconstructed with steel and brought to life as RoboCop.
Best quote: "Serve the public trust, protect the innocent, uphold the law."
Where he is now: Defending the streets of Detroit Next
TV show: “Star Trek: The Next Generation” (1987-94)
Background: Data is an android who is the second officer and chief operations officer on the USS Enterprise. He was made by Dr. Noonien Sooong, and is the strongest and arguably the most intelligent member of the crew.
Why we love him: Although initally he didn't understand human emotion, once Data (who later became a cat-lover) was implanted with an "emotion chip," he became much more human.
Where he is now: The original Data was destroyed trying to save Captain Picard from a warship, but not before sharing his memories and experiences with the young B4 so eventually, he may be able to rejoin the crew as his old self. Next
Seven of Nine
TV show: “Star Trek: Voyager” (1995 to 2001)
Background: A human assimilated by Borgs as a human child, Seven of Nine was implanted with cybernetic implants and became a part of the Collective. She became Voyager crew member in her early 20s. The Doctor removed the majority of her cybernetic implants and she became more human.
Why we love her: Even though she struggles with human emotions, her ability to sense nearby Borg activity is very useful. Next
Movies: "Star Wars" series
Background: Android who serves Luke Skywalker. He is a starship mechanic and computer-interface specialist.
Best quote: "Beep"
Why we love him: While his best friend, C-3PO, can be a coward, R2 doesn't hesitate to help his friends, no matter how dangerous the situation.
Where he is today: Continuing to loyally serve Luke. Next
TV series: "The Jetsons" (1962-63, 1985-87)
Background: Rosie is the robot maid for the Jetson family. She is a strict caretaker who needs to have everything clean.
Best quote: "I swear on my mother's rechargeable batteries."
Why we love her: An important member of the Jetson family, Rosie always tried to keep them under control, though she does have the occasional malfunction.
Where she is today: Getting ready for the 2012 Jetsons movie to come out. Next
Terminator Series 800/ Model 101
Villain/ hero (depending on the movie)
Movie: "Terminator" series (4 movies)
Background: In the original movie (1984), the Terminator was sent back in time to kill John Connor's mother but was reprogrammed in the second movie (1991) to protect Connor.
Best quote: "Hasta la vista, baby."
Why we love him: He's a bad-guy gone good, especially in the second movie when Connor works to teach him how to act like a human.
Where he is today: Awaiting the next movie, "Terminator 5," which will be released in 2014. Next
The Iron Giant
Movie: "The Iron Giant" (1999)
Background: The giant lands on Earth, in a small town in Maine. A boy named Hogarth helps to protect him against the military.
Best quote: "I am not a gun."
Why we love him: He befriends Hogarth and saves the town from destruction. Next
TV show: "Battlestar Galactica" (2004-09)
Background: These intelligent robots were made by the people of the Twelve Colonies and rebelled after becoming sentient.
Where they are today: Getting ready for their 2013 remake TV series of the First Cyclon War. Next
Movie: "I, Robot" (2004)
Background: In 2035, he is the first robot to feel emotion and is framed for murdering the man who created him. He works with Detective Del Spooner (Will Smith) to figure out what happened and prevent robots from taking over the world.
Best quote: "Do you think we were all created for a purpose? I'd like to think so."
Why we love him: He's an innocent robot who can kick butt in order to do good.
Where he is today: Liberating outdated robots Next
Creator: IBM Corp.
Background: Although he doesn't have a body like a normal robot, Watson is IBM's supercomputer. He is made to solve problems more like a human and less like a calculator.
Watson beat two of the top competitors from the game show "Jeopardy"—Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter—in a live show. He has been turning heads since. Next
Movie and TV show: "Transformers"
Background: Leader of the Autobots, transforms into a semi truck to avoid being seen by people. Optimus and his band of Autobots fight to protect humans from their rivals, the Decepticons.
Best quote: "They deserve to choose for themselves!"
Why we love him: Optimus is a fearless, selfless robot who risks his own life and home planet to save the human race.
Where he is today: Watching over earth to protect humans from the Decepticons. Next
Movie: "The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy" (2005)
Background: Marvin is a big-headed robot with manic depression.
Best quote: "I have a million ideas; but, they all point to certain death."
Why we love him: He's a downer but makes for a very funny character.
Where he is today: Roaming the galaxy with his friends. Next
TV show: “Futurama” (1999-2003)
Background: Described by a fellow character as an "alcoholic, whore-mongering, chain-smoking gambler," Bender can't exactly be counted on. But he falls in love with Amy Wong and in desperate times, he often pulls through for his friends. Next
Movie: "Robots" (2005)
Background: An inventor, Rodney moves to Robot City where he can meet his favorite inventor and look for a job. But the company doesn't turn out as he expected.
Best quote: "This is our moment to shine, to show them what we're made of."
Where he is today: Working as the right-hand "bot" for his favorite inventor. Next
Movie: "Wall-E" (2008)
Background: Wall-E, the last of his kind, is a garbage-collecting robot, used to help clean up the Earth for the humans to be able to return. His best friend is a cockroach, and he enjoys romance films and collecting knick-knacks.
Best quote: "Wall-E"
Why we love him: He doesn't say much, but he's a busy little robot who saves mankind
Where he is today: Helping humans adapt to life on earth. Next
Movie: "Monsters vs. Aliens" (2009)
Background: Sent by an evil alien named Gallaxhar to conquer the Earth. Next
Movie: "Robot & Frank " (2012)
Background: As a type of personal assistant, the robot is assigned to take care of Frank, an ex-jewelry thief. If he fails to take care of Frank, Robot’s memory will be wiped.
Why we love him: He befriends an old man and learns how to pull off jewelry heists. Back to the beginning
