10 affordable retirement towns
Median home price: $225,000
Charlottesville might not be as affordable as the other places on this list, but the home of the University of Virginia offers breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and a bustling art and theater scene that make this town a good place for retirees. The town also lies within a burgeoning wine region. There is a lot of rainfall here – around 44 inches a year – but temperatures rarely drop below 20 degrees. Most of the city is also accessible by walking or bicycle.
