Online job search sites like Monster.com may seem like bountiful sources of job opportunities, but students should be careful not to fall into the trap of a Web-only search.
DelGizzo said applying for jobs online, sitting back and waiting for employers to respond isn't usually an effective strategy. Instead, she said, students "need to get out from behind their computer, they need to put on their professional attire, and they need to be meeting with people."
Silver said students who keep applying without success need to reevaluate their strategy and spend more time networking. "If you send out 100 applications and it's not working, you've got to do something else," he said.
