More than 100,000 Flexible Flyer swing sets are being recalled by The Troxel Company after the manufacturer received 1,232 reports of the see saw seats breaking, leading to at least 13 injuries, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
That is an extraordinary number of reported incidents prior to a recall. Many recalls are issued when a company first learns of a potential defect, often before a single incident is reported. Reported incidents tend to only represent a small percentage of the actual incidents, since those include only the consumers who decided to report the problem to the company or the government.
The recalled swing sets were sold under 11 different model names, with the model numbers located underneath the middle of the top bar.
The following model numbers are names are included in the recall:
41575, BIG ADVENTURE; 41577, FUN FANTASTIC; 41578, FUN FANTASTIC II; 42003,
BACKYARD FLYER; 42013, BACKYARD FUN; 42023, BACKYARD SWINGIN' FUN; 42030, WINDSOR II; 42124, FUN TIME; 42126, FANTASTIC PLAYGROUND; 42544, TRIPLE FUN; 42560, TRIPLE FUN II.
The swing sets were sold at Walmart, Toys R Us and other stores nationwide between December 2011 and May 2012 for between $130 and $280.
If you have one of the recalled swing sets, you are asked to stop using it until you receive a free repair kits from Troxel.
