Can you say “green with envy?”
Forbes has just announced plans to track and share real-time data that includes the fortunes and ranks of the world’s 1600 billionaires. The publication, known for its Forbes 400 and World’s Billionaires lists, started tracking the daily changes in the value of a select group of billionaires in 2012. From Forbes.com:
That means each trading day, readers will be able to find up-to-date information on the fortune of any billionaire from around the world. We will update the value of individuals? public holdings every 5 minutes when respective markets are open (there will be a 15 minute delay for stock prices). We will also be tracking the billionaires with the biggest gains and losses on a given day. Those individuals whose fortunes are significantly tied to private companies will have their net worth updated once a day. Any private company owned by a billionaire and equal to 20% or more of his or her net worth will be pegged to an industry- and region-specific market index provided by our partners at FactSet Research Systems FDS +0.27% when available.
According to the announcement, the group will not adjust the value of the tracked billionaires’ cash, art, sports teams or real estate, nor will it feature individuals who’ve passed since Forbes last published their rankings. New billionaires will be sought out and added to daily updates starting in April.
In other news, who knew there are almost 2,000 billionaires on the planet? Now that’s what we call “rich.”
