What Betsy Ross is to the American flag, New England Flag & Banner may be to the championship banner.

A case in point: The Watertown-based company said that it has been chosen by the Boston Red Sox to produce a banner commemorating the team’s 2013 World Series Championship.

Plans call for the banner to be unfurled during pre-game ceremonies at Fenway Park during the Red Sox home opener against the Milwaukee Brewers on April 4.

Thanks to the excellence of local sports teams, New England Flag & Banner has had plenty of opportunity to sharpen its gonfalon expertise.

“We are constantly making championship banners for teams across the country,” company president Ned Flynn said in a statement. “Every time we make a banner for a Boston team like the Celtics in 2008, the Bruins in 2011, and now the World Series Champion Red Sox, the project takes on a heightened level of excitement for us.”
