Is Fenway still America’s beloved ballpark? Maybe not, if a new survey from TripAdvisor is to be credited. John Updike’s “lyric little bandbox” (a.k.a. Fenway) was ranked fourth on a TripAdvisor survey of the nation’s top ball parks.
PNC Park, where the Pittsburgh Pirates play ball, is number one, according to the TripAdvisor Popularity Index.
Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs, ranked eighth. So much for history.
A Newton-based travel site, TripAdvisor invites travelers to write online reviews of hotels and attractions. The firm uses “bubble” ratings for giving an establishment or an attraction a one- to five-star rating.
PNC Park in Pittsburgh drew 1,401 reviews and got a five out of five bubble rating, the company said.
“This ballpark offers stunning views of the Steel City skyline, the Allegheny River, and the Roberto Clemente Bridge,” TripAdvisor said.
And don’t forget the chow. At this ballpark, a discerning gourmet may feast on potato pirogues and Primanti Brothers sandwiches stuffed with French fries and coleslaw.
As for Fenway, it got a 4.5 bubble rating. One fan’s review: “Every baseball fan has to go to at least one game here in their life.” One consolation: Yankee Stadium didn’t crack the top 10.
