Can you tell the difference between a certified financial planner and a DJ with 14 years worth of dreadlocks and a Bruno Mars-style shake and shimmy?
That’s the premise of a new video ad created by Boston ad agency Arnold Worldwide for the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. The ad’s message: Consumers should look for CFP certification when choosing a financial advisor --- and they should check out the http://www.letsmakeaplan.org website as well.
To help create the ad, Arnold and the CFP board created a “faux financial firm” in a prominent office building. The firm’s office was a wall-to-wall with two-way mirrors, and behind those mirrors were hidden cameras.
Then Arnold and the CFP board went out and hired an actor who bills himself as Azmyth, a chap whose screen credits include a turn in one of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies.
Just like De Niro gaining weight to play a washed-up fighter or a pudgy monsignor, Azymyth is a chap ready to do anything for his art, including submitting to a makeover that has him looking every inch the sober and scrupulous bean-counter.
