Houghton Mifflin Harcourt taps Nicole Melander as senior vp of digital strategy

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, or HMH, has announced the appointment of Nicole Melander as senior vice president of digital strategy as the Boston-based publishing company pursues its goal of evolving into a leader in digital education.

Melander will report directly to company president and chief executive Linda Zecher. Melander will work closely with HMH’s content, marketing, alliances, and technology teams to align digital initiatives across the company — from the expansion of HMH’s digital partner network to the growth of its social business and collaboration strategy, the company said in a press release. 

Melander joins HMH from Achieving the Dream, a national reform network dedicated to community college student success and completion. The nonprofit focuses primarily on helping low-income and minority students earn market-valued credentials. Before that, Melander held education and technology leadership positions at Deloitte Consulting, Microsoft, and Oracle.
