Law firm Gunderson Dettmer Stough Villeneuve Franklin & Hachigian LLP will relocate its office in Waltham to Boston’s Fan Pier, the Fallon Company said Tuesday.
Along with MassMutual and Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers, the Fallon Company is part of joint venture that is developing Fan Pier. The plan is for Gunderson Dettmer to move into 27,000 square feet of space on the ninth floor of a Fan Pier office tower at One Marina Park Drive by September, the Fallon Company said.
The firm joins other companies that have announced plans to move from their suburban locations to Fan Pier, including Gunderson Dettmer clients Battery Ventures and Polaris Partners – two venture capital firms, which, earlier this year, disclosed plans to occupy 28,000 and 16,000 square feet, respectively, at One Marina Park Drive, the Fallon Company said. They will join EnerNOC and Fish & Richardson at that location.
“Fan Pier is at the center of the Boston ecosystem that fosters innovation in technology and the life sciences,” Jay Hachigian, a founding partner at Gunderson Dettmer, said in a statement. “Moving to the heart of the Innovation District aligns with the founding principles of our firm, and we are delighted to be joining such an exciting environment.”
A recent Globe story noted that rents are soaring in the part of the South Boston waterfront that former Mayor Thomas M. Menino rebranded as the Innovation District.
The average rent is now $52.92 per square foot in the district; just a few years ago, rents were 43 percent cheaper, according to to data from the commerical real estate firm Cassidy Turley.
