Zipcar Inc., the Boston-based vehicle-sharing network, and the City of Houston Fleet Management Department said that Houston’s FleetShare program has expanded to its second location.
The program first launched with shared pool vehicles in the Theater District’s Tranquility Garage and has recently expanded to the City Hall Annex Garage, Zipcar and the city said.
Six electric vehicle charging stations were installed in the City Hall Annex Garage allowing for both EVs and hybrid vehicles to be made available at this location, Zipcar and the city said in a press release. The expansion of the program to the City Hall Annex is the result of a 72 percent increase of enrolled participants, representing over 7,000 reservations. This move to a large shared pool of City vehicles will also maximize the efficiency of City resources.
Zipcar is currently in 24 markets in the US, Canada, the UK, Spain, and Austria. Zipcars are also available at 22 airports and more than 300 college campus. Zipcar’s fleet is made up of more than 10,000 vehicles of about 30 makes and models. Zipcar is a subsidiary of Avis Budget Group Inc.
