Battery Ventures heading to Innovation District

As start-ups become more commonplace in Boston and Cambridge, funders have been following, with Battery Ventures now making the move from Waltham to the Boston Fan Pier “Innovation District.”

Michael Farrell reports Battery Ventures, one of the area’s more storied VC firms, will be the first major firm to set up shop in the Innovation District, but the eighth to move into broader start-up hub that is downtown Boston and Kendall Square.

“Asking people to fly in and take a $75 cab ride to Waltham is a challenge,” Dave Tabors, a general partner at Battery Ventures, told Farrell.

Interestingly, now Waltham is left with just North Bridge and Polaris, with the latter highlighting the firm’s existing Kendall Square office and its Dogpatch Labs, which offers some entrepreneurs free office space and Internet connectivity.
