The superintendent feared they would have to lay off seven employees when he couldn't completely close a $500,000 budget gap. The teacher's union president also wanted to avoid cuts. After both sides brainstormed, the superintendent asked staff to donate a day's pay. More than 60 percent of the district's 605 workers agreed. ABC News featured the staff's good deed.
