Identify it: You get a call in your hotel room in the middle of the night. Its the front desk clerk saying the hotel must have gotten your credit card number wrong because the transaction wont go through, and could you please read the number back so the problem can be fixed?
Avoid it: Scammers are counting on you being too sleepy to catch on that the call isnt from the hotel at all, but from someone outside who knows the direct-dial numbers for the guest rooms. Tell them that you will call the lobby back in a moment or, even better, go down to the front desk in person.
