This year has seen a lot of flight cancellations and delays. US airlines have canceled nearly 88,000 of more than 2 million flights since the beginning of December.
For all airlines, canceling flights is a complicated and long process. Not only are airlines canceling flights earlier than they used to, but they have to take into account myriad different factors when making a final decision.
Here's a look behind the scenes at the Delta Air Lines Operations Control Center, which monitors all the natural, political, and social factors that go into canceling and delaying flights.
