Caritas Christi Health Care, the state's second largest hospital chain, said this morning that it has closed its sale to an affiliate of Cerberus Capital Management, a New York private equity firm.
The six-hospital chain was formed by the Catholic Archdiocese of Boston in 1985. Under the deal, current Caritas chief executive Ralph de la Torre (right) will remain, and run a Boston hospital management company set up by Cerberus. The Caritas system will now become a for-profit enterprise. Here is a look at the six hospitals affected by the deal, followed by a look back through the years at two of the hospitals.
