AAA predicts increase in year-end holiday travel

OKLAHOMA CITY—The number of Oklahomans traveling during the coming Christmas and New Year's holidays is expected to increase by 2.8 percent over 2010.
AAA Oklahoma said in a news release that 787,500 state residents are expected to travel by motor vehicle and 44,900 are expected to fly.
AAA predicts 91.9 million Americans nationwide will travel 50 or more miles from home during the holiday. The number is a 1.4 percent increase over last year.
AAA defines the holiday travel season as from Friday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Jan. 2.
The projections are based on research by the Boston-based economic research and consulting firm IHS Global Insight.
