Bag handler allegedly posed as marshal
A Delta Air Lines employee from Chelsea has been charged by the US attorney’s office with impersonating a federal air marshal and could face up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
Abdirahman Hassan, 31, a baggage handler at Logan International Airport, allegedly made the claim during a motor vehicle fraud investigation, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday in US District Court.
Hassan was in a car accident in December and brought the car to an East Boston auto body shop with more damage than was initially documented by an insurance adjuster, according to the complaint. When questioned about the additional damage, the complaint claims, Hassan said he would not lie because he was an air marshal, a job he also said he had during a subsequent interview with an insurance investigator.
Hassan has been suspended from Delta pending an internal investigation, an airline spokeswoman said.
