Filene's Basement , the Boston bargain merchant, filed for bankruptcy protection yesterday and two New York real estate firms offered $22 million to buy 17 of the retailer's 26 shops, including the closed flagship store in Downtown Crossing and the Newbury Street digs. (Full article: 514 words)
