JetBlue plans nonstops to Santo Domingo

JetBlue Airways Corp. on June 19 plans to launch year-round nonstop service between Boston and the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo. Service will begin with one flight per day on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays and may increase in frequency during the peak winter season.
Santo Domingo will be the carrier's 31st nonstop destination from Logan International Airport. The airline, which plans to announce the new service today, tested the route for three weeks around Christmas, its first time gauging passenger demand on any route with a temporary holiday shuttle.
"The Christmas period is the peak of peaks for airlines," said spokesman Sebastian White. "We saw a lot of traffic going to the Dominican Republic, but not enough to support a daily flight all year long."
The new service is awaiting approval from the Dominican Republic's government. JetBlue, which offers the most nonstop destinations from Logan, already flies from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York to three Dominican cities: Puerto Plata, Santiago, and Santo Domingo.
