iPhone 5s explained
At a media event on Sept. 10, Apple made a series of announcements about new software and products that culminated in the unveiling of the iPhone 5s, which is available for sale now. The new phone is one of two phone models created to replace the iPhone 5. Its design is similar to the previous model, but includes new colors and new features. Apple is calling it “the gold standard of smartphones.” Here’s a look at some its new upgrades.

Touch ID home button
The newest and perhaps most noticeable feature of the iPhone 5s is the touch sensitive home button. The button will recognize the owner’s fingerprint to unlock the home screen. Apple did say fingerprints will not be stored on their servers. This feature also lets consumers make iTunes purchases using fingerprints to authenicate your identity.
Apple is using a sapphire crystal top for its home button to resist scratching. Next
The iPhone 5s will cost $199 for 16 gigabytes of memory, $299 for 32, and $399 for 64, all with a two-year contract. Despite rumors, no low-cost, no-contract phone was announced; however, the iPhone 5c is less expensive than the iPhone 5s. Next
64-bit A7 chip
Unlike any other smartphone on the market, the iPhone 5s will have a 64-bit A7 chip, meaning it will be twice as fast with twice the graphics performance of the previous iPhone’s model. Epic Games unveiled “Infinity Blade 3” to demonstrate the graphics performance provided by the 64-bit smartphone chip.
The game will be available in the App Store for $6.99 on Sept. 20, the same day as the launch of the iPhone 5S. Next
As Apple often does, it once again improved the camera capabilities of the newest iPhone. The iPhone 5s will have improved camera pixels for a brighter, clearer picture. It will also have a stabilization mode and a burst mode, which will capture 10 frames per second, then analyze the photos and present the user with the best one. The camera app, called iSight, will also automatically set the white balance and exposure upon opening the app.
On the video side, the iPhone 5S offers slow motion capabilities at at rate of 120 frames per second. Next
Shown here is an example of an improved photo taken with the new iPhone 5s camera flash. The flash is called a “true-tone flash,” which means it analyzes the setting and subject and produces the proper flash. It has 1,000 possible color temperatures to improve photo lighting. Next
One of the less-hyped new features of the iPhone 5s is the M7, a tool that tracks the user’s movement and fitness to be used in conjunction with fitness and health apps. Next
