Getting a break on property taxes....

When municipal officials are looking for tax money, or weighing a Prop 2 1/2 override, talk often turns to the tax exempt property in their town: colleges, social services agencies.. even golf courses. Sometimes these places pay what are known as "payments in lieu of taxes.''
As part of his Your Town series, Globe Staffer Matt Carroll lists all the cities and towns in in Greater Boston and how much property is tax exempt. Twenty Five percent of the property value in Cambridge, for example, his listed as tax exempt. See where your town ranks here.
