Sweet 16 for Bentley men

A 6-plus hour road trip to Syracuse, N.Y. did not derail the undefeated Bentley College men's basketball team.

Sophomore guard Lew Finnegan of Lexington poured in a career-high 27 points and also registered six rebounds and four steals to power Bentley past host Le Moyne 67-57 in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.

Bentley, ranked fourth nationally in Division 2, improved to 16-0 overall.

With the game even at 41 five minutes into the second half, the Falcons seized control with a 19-6 run over a span of 8:15, opening a 60-47 lead with 6:43 to play.

The 6-foot-4 Finnegan, who scored at least 20 for the third time in four games, made nine of 13 field goal attempts, including three of five from three-point land, and also sank six of eight free throws. Senior Jeff Holmes was the only other Falcons with more than five, finishing with 15 points and six offensive rebounds.

Bentley will look to make it 17 straight on Wednesday when it hosts Saint Anselm (7:30 p.m.).
