The Medfield and Wayland High football teams punched their tickets to Eastern Massachusetts' Super Bowls with impressive playoff victories on Tuesday night.
On Wednesday, the two squads received their destination passes.
Unbeaten Wayland (12-0), making its first bowl appearance since 1975, will face Marshfield (11-1) in the Division 1A Super Bowl Saturday afternoon (4 p.m.) at Veterans Stadium in Quincy. Behind a brilliant performance from senior QB Ben Sherry (2 rushing TDs, 2 passing TDs), Wayland clipped Central Catholic 34-24 Tuesday. Marshfield blanked Weymouth 15-0.
In its first-ever bowl appearance, Medfield (11-1)squares off with Whittier (12-0) in the Division 3 Super Bowl at Acton-Boxboro's Leary Field at 4:30. Thanks to Michael Shabanoff's 23-yard field goal with 8 seconds left, the Warriors toppled Abington 35-26. Whittier pulled out a wild 48-46 win over Arlington Catholic.
In Central Massachusetts, Milford (10-1) and St. John's of Shrewsbury (8-3) will play Western Mass. opponents in CMass/WMass Super bowls on Saturday afternoon. Milford meets South Hadley in the Division 1A Super Bowl at Holyoke's Roberts Stadium (2 p.m.) while St. John's faces Minnechaug in the Division 1AA game at Worcester State (5 p.m.).
