High school games to watch this weekend

The Marian High football team has worked hard all season to be in the position it's in now, on the verge on securing the program's first playoff appearance since the 2002 season.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, the 8-1 Mustangs will take their shot, hosting Catholic Central Small rival Pope John at Bowditch Field. On the line is a Division 4 playoff spot for longtime coach Phil Marchegiani's squad.

Here's four more games to watch on this final weekend of regular-season high school football games:

Needham at Natick (7 p.m. Friday): The Bay State Herget champion Redmen go for their 25th straight win against a Needham squad trying to bounce back from last week's crushing loss to Bay State Carey leader Weymouth.

Medway at Medfield (7 p.m. Friday): The host Warriors can lock up the Tri-Valley League title and accompanying Division 3 playoff berth, with a win over Medway. But the Mustangs impressed in last week's win over Norton.

St. John's at Wachusett (7 p.m. Friday): The Pioneers can clinch at least the runner-up spot in Central Mass. Division 1 with a victory at Wachusett.

Assabet at Worcester South (1 p.m. Saturday): Aztecs can move one step closer to their second straight Division 3A title with a victory over first-place South.
