Think globally, have a yard sale locally

Anyone interested in buying a slightly-dinged-up table lamp and a blueberry muffin while saving the word at the same time will have an opportunity to do so this weekend, thanks to a group of local high school students.

A group of Newton students calling themselves Minga (a word from the Quiche language of Guatemala meaning "the coming together of community to work for the betterment of all") is holding a yard sale and bake sale tomorrow and Sunday, Oct. 21 and 22, from 9 am to 6 pm at 219 Lake Ave.

Thr group is trying to raise $5,000 to help build a rehabilitation center for sexually exploited children in the Philippines. The money raised will be used by One Child, a Canadian-based organization that is dedicated to eliminating the commercial sexual exploitation of children.
