Medfield on top of TVL

Medfield High football coach Mike Slason knows there's still three weeks to go in the Tri-Valley League race. "But it's nice to be the only team that's still unbeaten," he said after Friday night's 14-6 win over previously unbeaten Holliston.

Medfield (7-1 overall, 6-0) seized a 14-0 first-half lead on a pair of big plays -- Mike Lane's 35-yard run and Bud Stevens' 51-yard catch -- then turned the game over to an attacking defense that secured the solid victory.

Here's a wrap on our other four games to watch from the weekend:

Braintree at Natick: Redmen (8-0) get physical in a 16-play closing drive, setting up Mike Russo's 38-yard game-winning field goal in 19 seconds left, the 25-22 victory Natick's 23rd straight win.

Waltham at Everett: J.R. Suozzo tossed a pair of early TD passes and scampered 37 yards on a fourth-quarter keeper to power Everett (7-0) past Waltham (5-2) in the Greater Boston League clash.

Hudson at Ayer: Visiting Hawks (5-3) took flight early, but Ayer (7-1, 6-1) responded with 28 unanswered points for the CMass. Division 3 win.

Xaverian at St. John's: Visiting Hawks (5-3) convert a two-point run with 2:37 remaining to pull out 21-20 win over St. John's (5-3).
