A shot in the arm

It's still hard to determine what was more painful last year, getting the flu or the process of trying to get a flu shot. Well, except for that "little pinch" the nurse warns you about, getting a shot this year promises to be comparatively painless, Newton officials say.

Health and Human Services Commissioner David Naparstek says that the production glitches that marred previous flu vaccine manufacturing seasons have been worked out and that the pharmaceutical industry will churn out an estimated 100 million doses for the US market -- the most ever.

This year's city flu shot clinic has been tentatively scheduled for Nov. 1, Naparstek says.
