A 210-mile race ... and they're smiling

Last weekend in New Hampshire, the ``Crying Shames,’’ a running team comprised of a dozen neighbors who live within a mile of one another in the Auburndale section of Newton, competed in the eighth annual Reach the Beach race, a 210-mile relay race between Bretton Woods and Hampton Beach.

Joel Shames, for whom the ``Crying Shames’’ is named, said his relay team of 40-somethings was fueled by Gatorade, energy bars and adrenaline.
