Lost child of Sudan in Needham

Her American dream is coming true. A 22-year-old Brandeis University student who is a refugee from the Sudan will be sworn in as a U.S. citizen today at an Independence Day ceremony in Boston.

The Associated Press reports that Aduei Riak fled the Sudan 19 years ago and eventually made her way to America where she attended high school in Belmont and then went to live with a Needham couple, Helen Peters and Garrett Parker.

Riak tells the AP one of the things she is most looking forward to is voting for the first time in her life.
