A Franklin company has won a key patent approval for its technology for monitoring glucose levels in the body without piercing the skin.

Sontra Medical Corp. received the patent June 27, but only today disclosed its approval, the Globe's business news blog reports today.

Check the blog, too, for a report on Thermo Electron Corp. of Waltham, which has has agreed to purchase a British medical-device firm for $21 million.
