Red Sox rightfielder Trot Nixon was heading to batting practice when he heard a familiar voice call out his name from behind the fence. It turned out to be that of Lela Laughter, a retired high school math teacher from his hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina. She taught at New Hanover High when Nixon attended, but never had him in her class. She was sitting under an umbrella that she said he had autographed for her twice, once when he was in school, and again when he had made it in the big leagues. They chatted for a few minutes about family and friends, and then Nixon headed off to work.
