Louise Sauvage of Australia raises her arms in victory as she leaves Jean Driscoll of Illinois in open mouthed disbelief, capturing the Women's Wheelchair division of the 1998 Boston Marathon. The finish was so close that both women had official times of 1:41:19. Driscoll came down Boylston Street thinking that she had the race won. Even the public address announcer didn't know that Sauvage was closing in on Driscoll, who was starting to raise her own arms in victory, but never got the chance.
