On my way out to meet a friend for dinner in the North End, I said goodbye to my son. In his best 12-year-old gangster voice, he asked me to “tell the Godfather I was asking for him.” Later that evening on Hanover Street, the theme music from the Godfather movie caught my ear. I asked the accordionist if he’d play the song again. He agreed and waited as I called my son from my cellphone. A small crowd had gathered, and we enjoyed the music. At the end, we all clapped, including my son, whose voice could be heard yelling from my phone -- a special moment in the city.

Cheese Plea My daughter and son-in-law were heading home with their two kids and stopped at the drive-through at Starbucks. They ordered two lattes for themselves, whereupon my 2-year-old grandson yelled out from his car seat in the back, “Window, can I have a grilled cheese?”
