DERRICK Z. Jackson’s Jan. 11 column “What’s senseless is our tolerance for guns’’ is exactly what is senseless when discussing tragedies such as the Arizona shooting. While the study he cites may have validity, his arguments derived from the study do not. Most gun owners are law-abiding citizens, not unhinged individuals. The question is not the availability of weapons but why we, as Americans, are so violent. Perhaps a study should be done on the American psyche and our addiction to violence. If firearms are restricted or banned, people will find other ways to kill each other.
