RE "DISSIDENT group claims three women ordained as priests" (City & Region, July 21) and its inside headline "Group holds disputed event": For a second I thought I was reading the Boston Pilot! If this "event" had been a Protestant, Orthodox, or rabbinical ordination, would you still only have called it an "event" or "ceremony"? Your choice of words seemed to pander to the critics and naysayers of the ordination of women in the Roman Catholic Church. Having been to the ordination ceremonies of both men and women in the Catholic Church, this one felt pretty much like the real deal to me.

YOUR JULY 18 article in City & Region on possible excommunication of women is rife with categorical inaccuracies. You attach words like "ordination," "priest" and "Eucharist" to individuals, authorities, and churches that simply do not apply in the Catholic context that the article addresses.
You refer to these women as "aspiring Catholic priests" in an "ordination liturgy" that will "resemble the traditional" except for their gender. Nothing about what they're doing resembles the Catholic priesthood, because these women simply aren't priests.
