Major retailers stopped selling some costumes that played on stereotypes of illegal immgrants as Mexicans and space aliens. While there's always a danger in reading too much into Halloween masks, it's worth noting that anti-immigrant cartoons once played on stereotypes of Irish and Italians, among many other groups.
