Let retailers host tax holiday

Deprived by the state of an August sales-tax holiday, retailers considered telling shoppers that they, the merchants, would pay the 6.25 percent sales tax. But it turns out there is an obscure state law that forbids this. It should be repealed. In the meantime, why don't merchants just discount all their prices by 6.25 percent?
