In policing, too big a bump for military veterans

The Boston police preference for veterans is too generous. It gives any veteran with the middling score of 70 a chance to jump to the top of the line. This year, a third of all incoming cops got their jobs through the preference. While vets deserve a leg up because of their skills and service, they shouldn't get such a stark preference.
