Strip by Strega will open at the Boston Park Plaza in the coming months, in the old Whiskey Park space. Last night, this ad made the social media rounds (it was snapped by Erbaluce's Charles Draghi, whose restaurant is nearby); an uproar promptly ensued. It was a curious marketing choice: The most charitable interpretation I've heard is that the woman appears to be awaiting a gynecological exam. Adding insult to injury, the word "allure" appears to be spelled incorrectly.
A stroll by the Back Bay spot early this morning reveals that the ad seems to be MIA. All that remains is a crimson stiletto, stepping on a steak.
Run by restaurateur Nick Varano, Strega has branches in the North End, the Seaport, and Woburn. I reached out to their p.r. team on the ad situation; no word yet.
What do you think of the ads?
Update from Strega's p.r. team: I reached out to Strega's team and received this response: "The particular image you are referring to, was
replaced with a different panel shortly after being put up over the weekend; it was one of several panels installed to cover the windows during the redesign of the space. The image did not meet the standards of the owners of the restaurant; in addition to that, the panel had a typo on it. The intent of the series of images was to be alluring, not offensive."
